“We have only been together for two years, but somehow, I have known you my whole life. Time is - how do you say it - a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey…stuff."
Within five months of her first date with Alex, Megan had already composed the first draft of her wedding vows. Less than two years later, as they stood beneath the historic New Orleans Tree of Life, Megan and Alex made the inevitable official with delightfully nerdy aplomb. Megan's parents - dressed as Rick and Morty - gleefully brandished rayguns as they walked their daughter down the aisle. Lord Vader - a.k.a. the groom’s father - audibly sniffled beneath his large black mask. In tribute to Carrie Fisher, the entire wedding party wore streaks of gold glitter on their cheeks (the actress regularly glitter-bombed anyone that she thought was “having a bad day”). Following a heartfelt ceremony, Alex and Megan's first kiss as husband and wife was cheered by a truly diverse cast of characters. A large banana wolf whistled. Jack Sparrow burst into tears. Absolutely everyone - from the TARDIS to Dr. Frank-N-Furter - was beaming with joy.
Though it was an uncharacteristically frigid day, Megan and Alex - still wearing full wedding regalia - kicked off their backyard reception by cannonballing into the pool. The wedding party soon joined them - some more willingly than others - shrieking and splashing and laughing through their chattering teeth. Fortunately, warm, fluffy towels and barbecue fare awaited the couple post-swim. The cake was cut. The (gender-neutral) bouquet and garter were tossed. The champagne was drunk. Megan and Alex never once stopped smiling.
In short, Megan and Alex's “May the Fourth” cosplay pool party wedding was a perfect celebration of the bride and groom’s love for each other, their family, their friends, and all things sci-fi. Everything from the hand assembled lightsaber disco ball bouquets to the astonishing Doctor Who Adipose wedding cake was carefully chosen and imbued with deep personal significance.
Congratulations, Megan and Alex - may the Force be with you always!
