Full disclosure: I personally almost never wear high heels. My official justification is that, at just a whisper under six feet, I’m probably tall enough without them. My real reason? Just stepping into a pair of high heels immediately sends me sprawling across the line between “charmingly awkward” and “a danger to herself and others.” I can’t even look at a pair of stilettos without somehow landing on my butt. And, on the off chance that the rest of me actually survives the night, my poor, aching feet WILL make their displeasure known. Loudly. For days. So, when I overheard one of the talented ladies of Kiss and Makeup Beauty Services sharing tips on how to make heels less agonizing, it immediately caught my attention.
As it turns out, if you’re wearing closed-toed heels, there’s an incredibly simple, easy trick that can prevent a whole lot of agony: just wrap some tape around the third and fourth toes of each foot! Apparently, that little scrap of tape comfortably redistributes the weight on the balls of your feet, and it takes the pressure off of a sensitive nerve that lurks troll-like between those two toes. Fabric tape is stronger, softer, and more durable, but even a standard roll of plain old scotch tape can do the trick. It’s pretty cool.
Now, maybe you’re the type of person who can rock a pair of stilettos all day and night without breaking a sweat (let alone an ankle). If so, more power to you! If not, I’d definitely suggest having a backup plan or two in place for after the ceremony - especially if you’re planning a second line parade through NOLA’s…errr…questionably maintained streets. Even if you don’t plan on using them, pack a pair of cute flats or fun flip flops. Or, if all else fails - and you’re in a smooth, well-maintained area with no booby-trap cracks or broken glass - there’s nothing quite as fun as just kicking off your shoes and dancing like there’s no one watching.
